Label founder Kenzo Takada was born in 1939 in Japan. His career in the fashion world began in 1958 as the first masculine student at the well-known Bunka Fashion College in Tokia. Afterwards the young fashion designer went to Paris. At first Kenzo had a tough time in his new adopted country. But with only one collection he convinces all the critics of the fashion business. His first fashion show was a sensational success. The fashion magazine ELLE used one of the shown models on its cover. Then it was certain: Kenzo has reached the Olympian of fashion.

In 1970 Kenzo opened his first own little boutique called “Jungle Japonaise”. He transformed the store into a rainforest with brushes and paint and organized fashion presentations. In this way he established important contacts and got to know well-known fashion designers. He sold one of his first creations to the legendary French designer Louis Feraud.

Kenzo is able to combine and re-interpret the subtleties of Japanese fashion with French couture. He convinces with extravagant creations like edgy t-shirts, hoodies or pullovers, tailors kimonos of tweed, checked sarongs, chiffon dresses and combines wide capes with tight pants. He creates the perfect symbiosis of striking colours and patterns. Highlights of the collection are luxurious statement-sweatshirts, t-shirts and pullovers with label-significant tiger-head motive.
